lucy limped to the hospital wing, making her way slowly up the last flight of stairs to the floor. it's not that lucy was a badass who got in fights, and it certainly wasn't that lucy was a thrill seeker. she just happened to be quite the clumsy person. it wasn't unusual to see the brunette flailing about and falling face-first to the ground. this time she had been leaving her charms class when she tripped and landed wrong on her ankle. she was never too good at charms, though the rest of her family was. they had perfected memory charms, making it easier to keep their race as vampires a secret. but then again, it was as her mother said- she was a failure as a vampire. her familiar, a bat named carro, was not easy to understand, and she couldn't wipe a memory for the life of her.
but she could bite. and feed. that was what was important, in the end. finally on the third floor, she hobbled across the stone floor to the hospital wing on the other end. the large doors in sight made her pick up the pace, though she winced as she did so. witihn moments she was there, and pushing open the heavy wooden doors. peering in, she blinked wide blue-green eyes. shuffling in, she let the door shut with a thump behind her. "uhm .. hello?" she called out, inching inward, wondering if the nurse was on a lunch break at the moment. maybe she should come back later ...

`she spoke with a voice that disrupted the sky. Nick had finally finished classes, ending with a rather intriguing Charms class with the Hufflepuffs. He liked Charms, and spell work was his forte. He often did a lot of spell work in his spare time, just because he loved to see the colors escaped from the piece of wood he held in his hand, and the reaction another object or person had when the two collided. But then again, Nick could say he was intrigued by a majority of the magical classes he endured. Arithmancy, however, was something he could not stand. He'd chosen not to take the class because of the fact that it bored him out of all of his wit, and he'd often been the one to get in trouble in his early years in that class. Well, when he got bored, distracting him would mean disrupting another or all members of the class with his antics and pranks. They were all used to them by now, and he was a standard definition of a prankster, a comedic guy in the class. That was Nick's general nature of emotion in class. To his friends and other people who didn't know him, Nick was the caring, supportive, funny best friend who could make people laugh when they wanted to cry, or be the hug/shoulder when a person needed it. And it wasn't like Nick was a nobody - he was a Potter, one of the offspring of the famous Harry potter, known virtually by the entire wizarding world. His face had been splashed numerous times across the Daily Prophet and such. What a wonderful life, right? Wrong. Nick preferred just to be Nick, just be himself while the offspring of the other famous wizarding families were flaunting their known statuses (ahem, Malfoys), and just enjoy being himself. Somehow, that was never enough to anyone. Nick had to try and be confident with who he was, he guessed.
After class, Nick headed up to the Hospital Wing, feeling an well known hunger bursting into his stomach. It was not a hunger for food of the normal type, but rather of a certain crimson liquid that he needed, he craved. Known to nobody, Nick was a vampire. It was his best kept secret, and the biggest fear of his was being found out by everyone that he was a vampire. He found it a curse, an absolutely wretched burden to carry on already extremely burdened shoulders. When carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders was not enough, adding being a secret vampire made it much worse. Yes, there were vampire families out there, and some were open about it, but Nick saw nothing good about it. He could just imagine himself walking around Hogwarts once everyone discovered his secret; the feeling of intimidation, fear, and horror emanating from all of them onto him, and the dread of being seen that he would feel. He considered hiding himself away some times, but what good would that do? Nick had to live with it, and live with it he would. Nobody would need to know. his feet made impact with the staircase as he ran up them, heading straight for the Hospital Wing. Luckily, when he entered, nobody was there, so he headed for a group of vials of blood in the back. He knew his way around quite well, seeing as he had helped out starting in his Third Year there in his spare time. He popped open a vial and poured it into his mouth. The taste of pure rust and salt entered his mouth, but it was intoxicating to him. His stomach calmed just from that vial, and he felt it sufficient enough to get him through the next few days. As he replaced it on the shelf, another fell, knocking against his arm and then falling to the ground. He tried catching it before it hit the ground, but it was too fast for him. It shattered into uncountable pieces on the marble floor, and a quick spell configured it all back into its original shape. Unfortunately, a little blood was left over, but it was no huge mess to clean up. He cleaned it with a cloth from a nearby sink, and began his journey out with an extra vial of blood for the road (or in his case, in case he got hungry again at supper; he would secretively slip the vial into his pumpkin juice and it would hold him over for longer. Being a vampire who didn't know any other vampires or confide in them on a regular basis, Nick had no idea how to act or how much blood to have at once. He knew he could only go a week without it, that much was defined through experience. Nick had attempted to stop having blood altogether, and the consequences had nearly become fatal.
A door shut, and Nick turned, afraid he was going to be caught about with a vial of blood. He took his cloak off, as well as the sweater, feeling warmth from just having had blood. He slung them over his arm and walked casually out of the back area, knowing that he would have to make an excuse for a nurse if they were who stepped in. He was stopped abruptly by a female figure limping her way into the Hospital Wing. She looked a bit injured, but a bit more humiliated than anything. He halted, looking at the girl, who had been in his classes. A Hufflepuff. "Hey." was his first response, taking in her profile. The Hufflepuff robes stood out, and then he caught sight of her chocolate colored hair, cascading past her shoulders and framing her soft face gently. Her blue green eyes were looking around for someone, and Nick had been the one to step in, of course. Thank goodness she wasn't a teacher. Nick smiled politely. "Now, i'm no doctor, but you're limping. And I can fix it, if you want me to. If not, i'll leave you at peace." He flashed a friendly smile, having invited her to sit with a gesture of his hand while he spoke. Nick was the helper type, the prince/knight to save the damsel in distress. This situation was no different, but she just needed to give him the okay go.

a squeak at the window made lucy stiffen. she looked around, craning her neck in an attempt to keep her ankle and foot at rest. no one in sight, well not at the moment. her blue green eyes flared wide when she faced the window to her left. a small black bat was fluttering near the edge, and through the connection she could feel it was worried. it squeaked again. lucy shook her head furiously and waved her hands. well, more like she flapped her arms, but the bat got the idea. within second he was gone, and the window showed the tops of trees and the distant land again. lucy let out a long breath and let her arms drop to her side. sometimes carro was the most annoying bat a vampire could have. a voice sounded from deeper within the infirmary and lucy's cheeks flushed red as she looked over to see a boy about her age- a ravenclaw. she offered a small smile, her hands stretched behind her back as she tried and failed to keep the red tinge from flowing to her face.
she blinked at his matter-of-fact tone and nodded awkwardly, hobbling over to a cot and plopping down on it. letting out a long, silent breath, she peered down at her ankle. it had gotten swollen, but it didn't look too bad ... though bad enough she supposed. the boy had a thick mop of dark curly hair and eyes that were just as dark. he wasn't bad looking, and she could've sworn she'd seen him around the halls before. as a hufflepuff, she wasn't too familiar with ravenclaws. his name ... she thought she knew it. it was on the tip of her tongue. n-something. oh well, she'd just ask later. running her tongue over her fangs, she smiled a little, sort of embarrassed. "yes, well, i tripped coming out of class. i dunno what i did, but it kills." she explained, pointing to her ankle with an almost incredulous look on her face. her blue-green eyes were wide and her cheeks had subsided to a rosy tinge.
"i'm lucy, by the way. lucy smith." she introduced herself with a wide grin, though she kept her lips tightly together. behind them lay a pair of rather long fangs that would easily give way to her vampiric race. she tried so so hard to keep it all under wraps, as did her sister and entire family, so to ruin it would be stupid. having not fed for awhile, her fangs were longer than normal, anticipating a bite soon. she had made plans with quinn to go out tonight and find a meal, hopefully a oppossum if she was lucky. she loved those. snapping out of her reverie, lucy blinked and shifted her gaze from nothing in particular to n-something.

`she spoke with a voice that disrupted the sky. Nick had to be cautious. Right at that time, his fangs were still taking in the blood from his system, so his fangs were still long. He had already smiled openly at her - his first mistake, but then he was worried about her ankle, and his thinking about himself seemed to go down the drain. Maybe he needed to think about himself more often. But she really only blushed at his appearance, and so he took that as a good sign, seeing as she had not screamed yet or done anything that seemed she found him suspicious. A small smile soon joined the rosy tinge on her face, so, she'd accepted him after all. He thought he saw something in her smile that he also had in his - fangs? Was she a vampire too? For all Nick knew, he could have been seeing things. he was not going to be making assumptions or jumping to conclusions without vast amounts of evidence though, so he let the topic reside in the back of his mind for right then. The more important matter was the girl,, whose name he had not yet learned. He would probably learn it sooner or later, and he was going to introduce himself soon so that she did not think a complete stranger was going to heal her. Nick watched as she hobbled over, and to make it less awkward by him watching her do that, he busied himself with putting his cloak and sweater down on a spare bed so that it would not get in the way of him healing her. It would not take a lot of work for him to do it, he would just rather her be stable and comfortable when he was doing it.
So, once she had sat down, he picked up a chair from nearby and sat it down by her injured leg. Sitting down, he readied himself by rolling up the sleeves of his off white uniform shirt to his elbows and brought out his wand from his pocket. Worst place to put it of course, but Nick had never had a problem with the wand being there, and no spells were uttered nor had anything gone wrong. So, it was safe to say that Nick didn't have a problem with it being in his pocket. "Now, this should not hurt you." Nick spoke, just to show that he knew what he was doing. He was a bit nervous, for he didn't heal people on a regular basis. But when the nurses were on break, there was nothing Nick could do but help the injured; after all it was in his nature. Raising his wand so that the tip was right beside her ankle, which was noticeably swollen, he spoke the enchantment which would help her. "Episkey." As soon as he spoke it, light gold sparks emitted from his wand, disappearing into her ankle. That would fix any damage that had been done, so the swelling would go away. The pain would probably subside later. "I guess we both have something in common. We both trip in the most random of places. I fell while walking on the flat grass yesterday." He said, trying to ease her mood with a smile, and before he knew it, he'd shut his mouth again, fearing he'd shown his fangs to her for a second time. That was the thing, he liked to make a genuine smile to people he'd just met, so that he could seem like an alright guy to have around. He did not want to give off a bad first impression; his mother had taught him that. Nick wanted to be friends with people, not scare them away because he looked like a guy who would murder the next person he met. That might have been an exaggeration, but to Nick, he just really wanted to fit in as Nick, not just a Potter kid.
She introduced herself as Lucy Smith. It was a quaint yet beautiful name, and it seemed to fit her well. He decided that the best option was to introduce himself back. "Pleasure to meet you Lucy. I'm Nick Potter." He knew the look that would probably follow that sentence he just uttered. People either gave him the look of understanding, shock or excitement to be near him, and it all but irked him. Some times he had to fight hard not to run away or yell at the person because they related Nick directly to his father and his father's attributes. He looked from the girl to her ankle, which had become less swollen, yet still looked painful. "Do you want a wrap for that? Just so in case your ankle bumps something, you can have a bit of protection for it." Nick suggested, extending his point with an explanation. He was not going to force anything on her, but if she wanted the help, he was going to give that to her.

lucy watched in mild curiousity as the boy bore his wand, mumbling a spell that started with an 'e.' her ankle suddenly felt right, though the pain was still there. it was alreayd subsiding though, so she knew it wouldn't be a long lasting ache. she grinned broadly, being sure to keep her lips fastened together as she did so. the medicial field in magic was always fascinating. lucy herself found it all just amazing, and one day maybe hoped to study that field. but then again ... she had other interests. she liked myths- she wanted to set people right about vampires and everything else. even witches and wizards thought they knew what was going on, but they knew nothing. vampires weren't the monsters people thought they were. of course, it wasn't exactly great to be one but ... they never bit humans. not that they could ... drinking blood from a human was deadly to a vampire. suddenly, as if re-realizing that n-something was there, she blinked and offered a small, nervous laugh. "thanks!" she chirped, bringing her leg around to sit it on the cot she resided on. peering at it, she saw how quickly the swelling went down.
at nick's introduction, she nodded. oh- that's where she heard of him. a potter, hm? they were famous witches and wizards, the lot of them. being of a strictly vampiric family, lucy knew little more than that. and that they fought off the voldemort character. she smiled, trying to look like she knew and understood the name. "oh- right." she nodded again and reddened with embarrassment. sometimes, being from a ... different family such as hers, she felt out of the loop. nick began talking again, and she peered over at him, and then at her ankle again. "oh, well i guess that'd be a good idea if you think about it. sure!" she replied happily, bouncing a little as she came to the conclusion. humming to herself, lucy looked out the window, smiling a little at the cloudiness that covered the sky. she wanted to go for a walk later, and that would help. of course she could always use the spell ... but, like memory charms, she wasn't too good with it. more than once, she'd gotten a bit of sunburn from days outside.

`she spoke with a voice that disrupted the sky. The fact that she was smiling calmed him. It could not be that bad, could it, to have a girl around being fixed up by him and not realize that he was a vampire? It was going spectacularly for Nick right then, and he was not going to risk any more of his vampire signs by showing them. The one concealment would be not showing his teeth when smiling, which Lucy had also not been doing during the time that the two had been acquainted. He took note of it but let it slide as far as not bringing it up. He did not want to scare her off if she was just being shy and did not want to give toothy smiles when she smiled. It was a person's choice, after all. He was not going to question her motives simply because she did not show her teeth when she smiled. Now that would be ridiculous and counter-productive. Nick watched as her small, soft face grew rosy after she spoke about his name. She seemed to then understand who he was. And that was how it normally went. People knew who he was basically because he was the son of the "greatest wizard of all time" or "man who defeated evil" or whatever else they claimed about him. Some times it really irked him, but he let it go this time. Something in her blue-green eyes told him that she was unsure about who he was. Better off that way, he supposed. He did not want to go off into a huge explanation about his family which would turn into an argument. It always did when he spoke about his father, because he ranted about his father. Not that he didn't love his father, but the fact of who he was bothered Nick some days.
She gave him the acceptance to give her the wrap, and so he stood up. "I'll go get it. Don't want twenty flying at me if I use a spell." Nick joked, and then walked to the back of the room. There were many items located there, and he knew his way around mostly, but he also knew that the wraps were higher up. Scanning the shelves, his eyes landed on the wraps, just higher than he could reach. Of course, the nurses and doctors there would use magic to bring them down, and so did he. The only problem being; he didn't have as much experience as them, and aiming right at the basket would be crucial, or half of them would go flying. He certainly did not want to make a fool of himself in front of the girl he barely knew. Nick held his wand up, carefully making sure that he was directing his wand correctly, and muttered it. "Accio basket." And he closed his eyes. For some reason, that was what felt best for him. But as his confidence weakened, he was pleased with the lack of sound of baskets falling and cluttering everywhere, and by opening his eyes, found that only one basket was missing. It had landed at his feet, and so he gladly picked out a wrap and held it in his left hand. His wand work was needed again as he prepared to put the basket back up on the shelf, where it properly belonged. "Wingardium Leviosa." Nick spoke, the enchantment causing the basket to raise, and slightly shakily replace itself on the shelf. He stepped out to the room again where Lucy was still sitting. "Sorry it took me so long, Lucy, it was high up on the shelf." He said, a smile smile forming, his lips shut. He sat back down, and began his work again on her.
He slowly began to wrap the wrap over her ankle, taking his time and being careful not to accidentally bump her ankle or lift her foot too much and too awkwardly. In no time at all, the wrap was on and fastened. He sat back in the chair, his work finished on her. "Does that feel alright?" He asked her, looking up to her face, hoping he had done well enough for her standards. Nick was hardly close in comparison to an expert, so he wished he'd done the right thing, and if he had not, well then, he'd feel terribly sorry for having done anything at all for her, instead of calling up one of the doctors. "Do you want to walk on it? Perhaps I could walk you back to your Common Room. That is, if you'd want me to." Nick offered. He was not trying to come on to her, he was simply trying to be a gentleman and make sure he had healed her in the correct form. It seemed as though he had, but he was not convinced just yet. Nick did not want to leave the girl alone without any help, any aid on the way back to her dorm, but he was not going to push at staying with her if she wanted to be alone. He gathered up his cloak and sweater vest, slinging it over his arm, and waited for her answer. words - 897 :: tagged - lucy ! :: image cred - CAPTAIN A SPARROW @ CAUTION ! [/size]
