It had been almost two months since Jace had left Hogwarts. His family had an emergency and his mother was sick. He had no choice but to go home for a bit and take care of her and his sister. Rigel didn't complain one bit and believed that next to friends, family was all anyone had. She made sure to owl him every day and let him know that she loved him and missed him. But she wasn't completely straining to see him. Rigel was still getting use to the whole serious relationship thing. And calling Jace her boyfriend was still not something she was use to. It wasn't that she didn't like the way it sounded, it was just weird coming out of her mouth. After five months of being together officially, Rigel still couldn't believe that she had a boyfriend.
The past five months had been great though. Everyday was a good day; just seeing Jace look at her the way he did made her feeling amazing. Whenever she woke up next to him during their many nights of sneaking around to have some intimacy, she smiled. Her heart was full of love and she wasn't against it anymore, just still getting use to it.
She received an owl from Jace several hours prior, telling her he was coming back to Hogwarts. He would be back that night and she was more than happy to get his letter. While he was on his way, she had to go and enjoy her solitude in the astronomy tower. It was their place. Where they had their first conversation, first kiss, and many nights of star gazing and just talking. They both loved the stars and the wonders of the universe. It was what she loved about Jace; that and how he felt about her.
The moon was nearly full and the stars were brighter than ever. It was the benefit of going to school in the countryside, no lights or cars to distract one from the natural beauty of the world. Rigel sighed and stroked back her long brown hair. It was wavy now, since she just got out of the shower, but sometimes it would just straighten itself out naturally. Her hair was weird like that. She wondered where Jace was at that point and looked down the side of the tower as if she would see him in the distance coming towards the school. She couldn't wait to just hug him and steal him away for a couple of hours, her hormones were definitely raging and she was a good girl and loyal girlfriend during his absence. Hence why she needed to pounce on him the second she saw him.

his mother had come down with something, she'd had to be hospitalised and everything, jace had had to go home. he wasn't about to let his mom die and leave his sister all alone, no, he'd gone all the way back to goodwood and helped take care of mikayla and their mom. it had been strange, leaving in the middle of the semester, but his teachers had understood his reasons, he'd just had to do his work by owl. that had been odd. but then again, he'd had another thing to look forward to that came on the wings of an owl, a letter from rigel, he got one every day. they made his depressing task a bit happier.
he'd only gotten back to hogwarts half an hour earlier, he'd had time to change out of his traveling clothes before he'd heard the sounds of a party of some sort going on in the common room, curious, he'd gone to investigate, not even grabbing his wand or anything, just grabbing his glasses and putting them in his pocket before heading out of the dorm, vera close on his heels. he figured that wherever there was a party, there would be rigel, but as he looked around the slytherin common room, he couldn't spot the brunette. slightly perplexed, he did one last scan and stopped dead in his tracks. no, it couldn't be her, no way. it had to be one of the other hot, way too familiar brunettes in slytherin. . . no.
his misty eyes stared at the sixth year who was laughing with a guy off in a corner. watching as the other guy leaned in and whispered something in her ear, causing her to laugh again, jace backed up into the doorway of the dorm hallway, his eyes never leaving his girlfriend. he didn't normally get jealous, or even angry, not unless someone genuinely pissed him off, but this was getting damn close. watching as she put her hand on his shoulder and then left the common room, jace glanced down at his cat and shook his head, his smile sliding off his face.
looking back up, he watched as the common room door closed and it took him all of three seconds to decide to follow her. keeping a fair distance behind her, keeping pace with vera who was in absolutely no hurry to go watch this crash and burn, he tried to think of a logical reason for why rigel had been flirting with that guy. he couldn't think of one. climbing up the stairs to the astronomy tower, he gently pushed open the doorway and stepped up onto the deck. putting his glasses on so that he could feel confident enough in his sight, maybe that was all that had been goi- no. enjoying your evening ri? he asked casually, crossing his arms over his chest and leaning against the wall beside the door.

Her evening had went well. Slytherin had won the Quidditch match that day and of course there was a party in the common room. Rigel was having fun without doing anything illegal (which was another massive change for her). But she didn't complain. She didn't feel like getting drunk or doing anything stupid, not when Jace wasn't around to take care of her. She was slowly growing up and gaining some kind of responsibility over herself and she liked it. She made several conversations, but Rigel mainly spent most of the night with the Slytherin Seeker. He had made the winning score by catching the snitch and Rigel was asking him Quidditch questions all night. She loved the game and was pretty good on a broom but only to be a Chaser or Beater. He seemed to be a cool person and even Nathan and Aiden liked him... which was odd and rare. But she knew he was flirting with her a bit and she kept her distance when appropriate. She even mentioned Jace several times so the guy would take the hint. Thankfully he did and just returned to casual discussion for the rest of the evening.
Rigel was resting her head against the window when she heard a familiar face behind her. She closed her eyes and a smile grew on her face. He was finally here and she was so glad. Opening her eyes and quickly turning her head, Rigel's smile grew and she merrily jumped away from the railing to hug Jace as hard as she could. Wrapping her arms around him, Rigel giggled with excitement and said "It's about time you got back. I actually had to miss you." She then kissed him deeply before pulling away after several seconds. "What's wrong?" she asked. She knew there was something off. And she hoped his mother was OK. He didn't mention anything but good news in his last letter so she hoped it wasn't some last minute heart failure or something like that.
She brought down her right hand and placed it on his chest. "Jace love... are you alright? He didn't look terrible, just concerned or upset about something. She would have noticed it earlier if she wasn't so excited to see him finally. But she knew Jace very well, and always detected when something was wrong, even if it was something minor like an exam grade. She continued to look at him and wonder what could have been bothering him so much. He seemed distant in a way, or angered at her even. But she couldn't imagine why and therefore didn't know what to think. She waited patiently for an answer, hoping she would be able to help him get through it. If he needed to go back and help his family some more that was more than understandable. She just didn't want to be lied to or kept out of the loop.

watching as she turned around with a grin on her face, jace mentally took a step back, maybe he was just being crazy, maybe there had been nothing going on. . . no, he'd seen it with his own two eyes, and he wasn't going to put it to rest that easily. he hugged her back simply because it was something he'd missed doing so much, but he didn't hug her as hard as he'd wanted to earlier that evening. It's about time you got back. I actually had to miss you.
nodding with a halfhearted chuckle, he let her kiss him, but didn't really react to that either. he knew he was being mean, but he was, in all honesty, just scared that she'd let him go. What's wrong? looking down at her, he tossed words back and forth in his head, trying to figure out whether or not to just come out and ask her, or try to trick her into saying something. . . but he wasn't that mean, Jace love... are you alright? so obviously he was an open book when it came to his emotions, fantastic. i went down to the party, i guess slytherin won the match today? looking away from her as vera butted her head into his calf. but i saw something that i was hoping you could explain to me. . . turning his blue-ish eyes back on her, he sighed. who was the guy you were flirting with? he tried to keep his voice normal, casual, not accusing. but he also wasn't quite sure how well he pulled it off. he still had his arms around her waist, but that was mainly to keep her from turning away from him without answering if it came to that. "What?" she replied with a giggle. Rigel didn't think Jace was serious, since they normally joked around about silly things like that. But when she saw his face, she decided to skip the jokes and realize that the topic he brought up was really bothering him. She lowered her other hand so both were resting on his chest and tilted her head in slight confusion. "Jace what are you talking about?" She was definitely a bit peeved and would only get annoyed and eventually upset if he was really serious about his accusation. The Slytherin Seeker she was talking to was flirting with her, that she wouldn't deny. However she made sure he understood that nothing was going to happen. Once he realized she was taken, his attitude changed and he was just a cool person. He even helped her out with a few flying tips the next time she wanted to just play a game with some friends.
Looking into Jace's ocean blue eyes, Rigel tried to detect everything he was feeling. He had his arm around her waist so he didn't know if it was to show that he didn't care about what happened and just wanted her side of the story, or if he was holding her in case she tried to avoid the subject. Either way she didn't appreciate his tone and folded her arms after finally reaching her annoyed point. "I didn't flirt with anyone Jace," she finally continued. "So you're going to have to be a bit more specific as to which bloke you're speaking about."
Yup, she was annoyed now and didn't bother to show it. She had waited patiently for two months to see Jace again; she couldn't wait to just have him hold her in his arms and smell the familiar scent that was always him. Love was such a new thing for Rigel but after weeks of rejecting it, Jace finally made her realize that it wasn't anything to be afraid of. Now that they were together, she was having the time of her life (along with getting teased by Nathan and Aiden). But now that she was finally able to see Jace again, this kind of welcome wasn't what she was expecting. And the fact that he got their earlier and didn't say anything, upset her even more.
If anyone knew Rigel Serpens, they knew she had a temper, and quite a short one at that. She was a pack of C-4 ready to explode and if Jace didn't say the right thing, he was in for a rude awakening. Then again, Jace was use to her outbursts so he would probably know how to handle her; even during the worst situations.

What?
looking down at her when she giggled, jace felt confusion cross over his face about the same time he saw it appear on hers. Jace what are you talking about? blinking down at her, he listened to vera muttering and he half wished he could take back his accusation, have the reunion he'd been looking forward to. I didn't flirt with anyone Jace. So you're going to have to be a bit more specific as to which bloke you're speaking about. he tried to figure out who it was that he'd seen her with, but after only seeing the back of their head, he couldn't exactly give her a name. . . . i don't know. he sighed and looked out over the black lake far below. all i know is what i saw, and it looked more like flirting than just harmless chatting. there went his jealousness again, his voice went back from being just tired to more irked. why couldn't she just be straight with him? just once, could she not be the defensive one and just tell him the truth? wait. . . he was being the defensive one right now wasn't he? who was he, i know you know who i'm talking about rigel. blue eyes burning down at her, jace had a flash of worry that in the two months he'd been gone, she'd moved on, gone back to the whole love doesn't exist thing. it had been what he'd been so paranoid about the entire time he'd been home. he'd been so scared that when he came back, she would tell him that it had been fun while it had lasted, but it was over. . . he wasn't about to let that happen now. closing his eyes for a moment, he shook his head and sighed. i'm sorry. . . . i guess it's sleep deprivation finally kicking in. leaning down, he kissed her forehead, hugging her, pushing the paranoia out of his mind for the moment. i shouldn't have jumped to conclusions. . . he knew he must be looking crazy about now, but he hadn't slept in 24 hours, he'd been on a pretty tight thread the entire time he'd been home, and he had then come back to see rigel 'flirting' with some guy, maybe he just needed sleep already.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Rigel wasn't stupid. To be frank she was pissed off. She couldn't believe what was happening. Jace actually thought she was flirting with that Quidditch Seaker?!? What the hell did he think of her? Was she all of a sudden not committed to the relationship she promised him she would be a part of? She wasn't able to think of what to say. Granted when she did say something it wasn't her thinking it was just her talking and saying whatever was on her mind. "You've got to be joking," she replied. He actually thinks I cheated on him... what a bloody idiot... Now she was angry and she was more upset at herself than she was at Jace. She never had any doubts about what she got herself into than just then. She was happy being with Jace and only Jace for five months and then he pulled this crap when he was away for two of them. If he was so lacking in trust in her, then what kind of relationship was that.
Pulling away from his embrace, Rigel turned around and bit her lip. She didn't want to open her mouth or look at him because if she did, she would yell and scream and make him feel terrible. She loved Jace, and didn't want to make him feel stupid but hey... what he thought of her at that moment wasn't exactly flattering. She was aware that he was tired, she could see it all over his face. But that didn't excuse him to be a complete arse. "Two months of writing back and forth and this is what you come back to accuse me of?" Rigel was hurt, beyond hurt and it was the exact feeling she was trying to avoid while being with Jace. He promised her it wasn't something to be afraid of, and that giving your heart to someone like he did for her, was a natural thing; it wasn't something to fight. "I can't believe you Jace. Of all people to be jealous it just had to be you. What happened to you when you were away? Why are you like this?
She assumed something really bad happened in order for him to have become so paranoid. The question that arose in his mind was what exactly did he see at the party? She didn't kiss any boy or hug him or act flirtatious in any way. And if she was behaving that way in any shape or form, it would have led to her sleeping with him or making out on the couch and she definitely wasn't trying to do that. Jace was the only man in her life and she liked it that way. But now he was making her regret it. And even thought he seemed to want to drop it, she knew the conversation wasn't over. She knew that what he thought he saw, was still lingering in his head and he was only trying to avoid confrontation. Well, Jace should have been smart enough to know that that was unavoidable with Rigel. Once you start a conflict, she finishes it.
Sighing, Rigel bit her lip even harder. Dreading the next words that had to come out of her mouth. "Jace you never told me or showed me that you didn't trust me," she continued. "I can't do this if you can't trust me... I don't care what happened with your mother. But if that means that it puts a strain on us... then I... I can't... be with you..." She trailed off, never believing she would even have to say what she just said. But Jace gave her no choice. Her heart sunk when she said it, and she still couldn't face him. But Jace wasn't making the situation any easier and Rigel was going to avoid the problem from getting worse by just ending their relationship all together, if that was what Jace wanted.

You've got to be joking,
the tone itself was enough to make jace cringe. pushing his hair out of his face when she pulled away from him, he let his head drop and he shifted on his feet. shit. now he was really backtracking, looking up at her through his hair, he just watched as she looked away from him. Two months of writing back and forth and this is what you come back to accuse me of? he didn't even bother to argue, he knew that she needed to argue her side first, it was just what he'd learned over their three months together here. I can't believe you Jace. Of all people to be jealous it just had to be you. What happened to you when you were away? Why are you like this? pushing himself away from the wall, he looked down at her, but pushed his hands into his pockets, his posture completely unthreatening, like talking to a kitten. easy, i'm exhausted, i've been scared to many times since i went home, i've been taught to just expect the worst. . . i'm an idiot. he more muttered the last part to himself. Jace you never told me or showed me that you didn't trust me, I can't do this if you can't trust me... I don't care what happened with your mother. But if that means that it puts a strain on us... then I... I can't... be with you... this made his head snap up, no, he wouldn't let this happen. rigel, please, hear me out here. he stayed where he was, only his eyes moving, searching her face. i've just been stressed out, it wasn't like i was going home for a vacation, please, you know i trust you, i love you, just let me explain. slowly, he placed his hand on her shoulder. between running his sister to school and to the hospital, dealing with his mom's job, dealing with doctors galore. . . he hadn't had one spare minute of breathing room, he'd written to rigel generally as he'd been falling asleep or when he'd been waiting for a doctor to come tell him something. it hadn't been a vacation on any sense.[/blockquote][/blockquote]
