Throughout her childhood Cassandra was always a stick figure and this slim build has maintained through to her adulthood years although it has filled out with curves in the right places. She stands at an average 5 feet 6 inches and weighs about 145 lbs despite eating an abundance of food. Cassandra has always been able to eat the food around her and not store it therefore her weight remains relatively stable.

As a teacher, she dresses appropriately for the classroom. More often than not one would find Cassandra walking around the castle in her robes, but if she is going for a more casual look she will wear a skirt or pants with a light shirt/blouse/sweater on the top. One important thing to note with Cassandra is that none of her clothing is tight or binding and she wears a minimal amount of jewellery as she has been known to get so caught up in a vision that she chokes herself.

Cassandra is a very observant person. More often than not she sees more of what’s going on with the larger picture than the small minute details however she can also zero in on the specific details when necessary. She cares deeply for her students and is willing to listen whenever they need to talking- kind of like a muggle version of a counsellor.
When it comes to getting to know new people she often comes off as shy however she is far from it. In reality Cassandra is a fairly outgoing person but she is cautious because of her ‘gifts’. Her education began fairly early in life. As a young child her visions started coming naturally on their own without any channelling devices (scrying bowls, crystal balls, tarot cards etc) and initially she was scared by them and also noticed that people around her expected her to be able to fortell bad events but it was not that easy for her. Over the years she has learned to semi-control the free flowing visions but will occasionally have an uncontrolled vision- this has added to the cautiousness she exhibits. Cassandra has learned over the years to control the anger that erupts when someone disrespects Divination- there has been times where she wished she could give them a taste of a day with her gifts and see how they would handle the chaos that occurs in her body but sadly that is not possible so she has had to learn to control any of those negative emotions that come up.

-----history: Prior to the birth of their daughter, the Blackwoods had suffered through 3 miscarriages, despite magical healing, and they resigned themselves to the fact that they might only have the one child- a boy. However, Elizabeth who was gifted with the powers of Divination, received a vision of a beautiful brown haired little girl and it was discovered after that, that she was in fact pregnant. The child, Cassandra- in face a girl just like the vision, came into the world on a warm June evening. Her parents couldn’t be any happier by her arrival; her brother wasn’t so happy it was a girl, but he learned to love his sister dearly. It wasn’t known that she was also given Elizabeth’s gift, despite the odd awareness of what might happen, until her 6th birthday when she had a very terrifying vision. Her vision was that of her parent’s death in the Great War. This vision scared her and she tried to shut down the gift- called it a curse and it took her mother to help her work through it. The Great war came three years later after this vision and Fate seemed to think that the young girl still needed her parents.
Casssandra, just like her mother, had received the natural gift of Divination. Although there are lots of tools that Diviners can use to encourage visions, for her they are just tools- they visions would come when they wanted. Over the years she learned to control the visions. Now she channels the visions through the tools that are at her disposal- scrying bowl, crystal ball, tarot cards etc. Occasionally of course a vision will take hold of her without the use of the tools. When this happens she sees a flash of pictures, dialogue, smells and has to take what she is experiencing and interpret it based on the situation. When she came to Hogwarts, her abilities in Divination were further encouraged. She spent many hours outside of class in the Divination room practicing. When Professor Trelawney chose to ‘retire’ it was suggested that Cassandra assume her place as the Professor of Divination due to her natural gift. She didn’t really have to think long on it. Cassandra enjoyed working with children and she hoped to guide them towards a loving relationship with Divination. At the age of 22 she was offered the teaching position at Hogwarts and gladly accepted the position.

Ah, a new crop of third year students…It didn’t take a Seer to guage what their reaction would be- some were excited, some were nervous, some didn’t really want to be there and she would be teaching all of them. By now she was very used to the sceptics both in her class and in the wider world- including that of fellow teachers. Cassandra entered the classroom to find the students staring around the classroom. Her classroom was known around the castle as the ‘gypsy’ room as it looked like a roving caravan- sure there were ‘desks’ for the students to sit at but there were also cushions for those who preferred to sit on the floor. “Good morning. I know that some of you would rather be somewhere else, but perhaps by the end of the year you will have a better understanding of how beneficial Divination can truly be. Although it is easier for those who have a ‘natural’ gift, everyone can learn to divine the future. We will start with the easier methods- Tarot Cards, Tea leaves, palm readings and then move towards methods such as scrying and crystal balls. Now, today you will be mostly observing but I will be seeing how much you know as well. Gather close my students and keep a ‘clear’ mind.”

Cassandra pulled a well worn set of Tarot Cards out of her pocket and motioned for her students to gather around the desk. After shuffling the cards, she turned the pictures over. “Now Samantha, what cards do we have here?” The young Raveclaw looked at the cards –There is ‘Stregth’, ‘Wheel of Fortune’, ‘the High Priestess’, ‘Hierophant’ and ‘The Emperor’-

“Now can anyone tell me what the cards mean in regards to my future?”

A student in the very back of the group raised her hand. After a nod from Cassandra she took a breath while she examined the cards. “The Emperor is upright which shows respect for authority and self control gained over the years. The Hierophant is also upright- which relates to a Seeker seeking wisdom or teaching/counselling…” The student went on to describe the rest of the cards. “Very well done.” During the remaining few minutes of class she also showed the students one of the harder methods- gazing into a crystal ball. There was a lot of excited energy coming from the students which confused the ball- it remained somewhat clouded. “Sometimes you will look into the ball and see an entire picture and then other times it will be obscured like this. To clear the image you need to maintain focus. Now for tomorrow I would like each of you to pick a partner from your house and read their Tarot Cards. You do not have to analyze the cards yet just write down what cards come up when the deck is flipped over.”
